NEW PHOTOS FROM ALASKA

In 2006 Photographer Dick Anderson spent two weeks canoeing the remote wilderness of Wood-Tikchik State Park, about 400 miles west and north of Anchorage. Accessible only by bush plane or boat, the Wood-Tikchik wilderness is a pristine area of spectacular beauty.

In August and September, 2007, Dick returned to solo canoe remote Alaska at Walker Lake, in the Gates of the Arctic National Park. From that starting point, Dick floated down the Kobuk River through several native villages to Kotzebue, a town some 33 miles north of the Arctic Circle on Alaska's western coast. Along this journey, Dick arrived at Onion Portage in time to witness the river crossing of the great arctic Alaskan caribou herd. Onion Portage is still in use as a major caribou hunting site as it has been for over 100 centuries. Dick, or course, hunted only with his camera.
